Honoring Dr. King

By Mary Moore
  | Jan 13, 2017

'Everybody can be great because anybody can serve' - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Everybody can be great … because anybody can serve.
You don’t have to have a college degree to serve.
You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve.
You only need a heart full of grace.
A soul generated by love.”

— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Monday, January 16, Self-Help offices will be closed to observe Martin Luther King Day. Just a glance online shows a wide range of special events all over the nation and North Carolina, and many on our staff will be participating. We asked a few of our colleagues about their plans. Continue reading to see a sample of their responses.

Mariachi music, folklorico dancers, good food and community--last week's ribbon-cutting celebration at our Second Federal branch in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood was full of life.

Second Federal, a Division of Self-Help Federal Credit Union comprises three branches in Chicago, including the Little Village branch. Second Federal began life in 1882 as a savings and loan association. When financial hard times forced the thrift to close in 2012, Self-Help Federal Credit Union (SHFCU) joined with partners to save it, bringing Second Federal into the Self-Help family. We’re pleased to announce that we recently closed a $150,000 Small Business Administration (SBA) loan with Seal the Seasons, a small business created by entrepreneur Patrick Mateer.
