General business information: Business Link North Carolina is a good resource on starting and expanding a business. Be sure to look at the Planning Checklist in the "Start Your Business" section.

Counseling and mentoring services: If you're in North Carolina, take advantage of great local resources. The NC Small Business Center Network (SBCN) offers free seminars, fee-based classes and support for small businesses. The SBCN is an initiative of the North Carolina Community College System and has locations throughout the state. The Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) is a program of the University of North Carolina system in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBTDC provides free counseling and other services to start-ups and existing businesses.
