My Name Card

Introducing the Self-Help My Name card: the card that lets you be you

The name on your card tells merchants who you are, but it can’t express who you really are - until now. Self-Help’s My Name feature for credit or debit cards lets you display your preferred name… the name that identifies the real you.

The My Name feature gives you the freedom of expression that you deserve. Let the real you shine through by using your preferred name on your Self-Help debit or credit card.

To update your card with your preferred name, visit your local branch or give us a call at 800-966-7353 and tell us you want to use the My Name feature on your card.

To update your card with the My Name feature, or apply for a new card, visit your local branch or call 800-966-7353.

Guidelines for the Self-Help My Name card

If you are a current Self-Help Credit Union debit or credit cardholder, call or visit your local branch or call our Contact Center at 800-966-7353. Be sure to specify which card you want to update. Update both cards, or just one. ATM cards are not eligible.

A new credit card account will require approval but can be issued in your preferred name.

In our communications to you, we will try to use the name you provided for your My Name card; however, Self-Help will continue to use your legal first name for certain communications. Self-Help may also ask for your legal first name for identity verification purposes. The name on your member account will remain your legal name.

If you happen to get questions on your card name not matching to your ID, the merchant can reach out to Self-Help by calling the number on the back of the card to verify your identity during business hours.

For online purchases it is best to use the name displayed on the card that you are using to make the purchase.

If you have a first name that you prefer we use when speaking to you, we suggest using that name. There are some basic guidelines that you must follow. For example, profane names and any offensive language will not be accepted. You also cannot use numbers, symbols or special characters.

The ability to select a preferred name applies only to your first name. Your last name must remain your legal name.
