DURHAM, NC – Self-Help Credit Union’s third annual “Adopt a Backpack” campaign is now up and running. All 18 Self-Help branches are working with members to help ensure children have basic school supplies for the start the school year.
Through the program credit union members and others can “adopt” a backpack at any Self-Help branch by donating $5 for school supplies. For each $5 donation Self-Help buys the school supplies, provides a drawstring backpack and delivers the backpacks filled with a total of 20 items including notebooks, paper, pens and pencils.
This year’s campaign ends on Thursday August 20.
“Our ‘Adopt a Backpack’ drive has become a fun annual event that helps the community, “said Self-Help Credit Union President Randy Chambers. “Having credit union members and branch staff join together to help out kids in need is a win for everyone.”
Ashley Chadwick and Melody McBroom, Self-Help’s Kinston and Wilmington Branch Managers, started the program in their branches in 2012. Since 2013 all Self-Help Credit Union branches have participated. Self-Help now has 18 branches in total. Each branch works with a local school or school system to distribute the backpacks in time for the start of school.
Self-Help Credit Union offers a full range of financial products and services in addition to financing personal, vehicle, mortgage and business loans.
