San Francisco, CA – Famed Labor and Civil Rights Leader Dolores Huerta will be the guest of honor at a ribbon cutting on Thursday, November 20th for Self-Help Federal Credit Union’s new branch in San Francisco’s Mission District.  The ribbon cutting celebrates the opening of Self-Help Federal’s 20th California branch. The event is from 5.30 pm to 7 pm at 2430 Mission Street in San Francisco, the new branch location.

Media planning to attend should RSVP at events@self-helpfcu.org.

Huerta co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which became the United Farm Workers Union.  She also helped found the United Farm Workers Credit Union, which merged with Kern Center Credit Union in 1995.  Kern Central merged into Self-Help Federal in 2010.

Self-Help Federal, chartered in 2008, has merged the operations of eight California credit unions and now serves over 58,000 Californians.  Mission SF Federal Credit Union merged with Self-Help in 2011.

“Self-Help is honored that Dolores Huerta will be present to help us celebrate our new and expanded Mission District branch,” said Self-Help Federal’s President Steve Zuckerman. “Joining together these credit unions, such as the one Dolores started, is helping us better serve California families that lack access to mainstream financial services.  That means cost savings and access to responsible credit – and a better chance to build family assets – for families who need it most.”
