Self-Help branch community wall in Raleigh, NC

Annetta Carter had been counting the days until Self-Help’s branch in Raleigh opened for business. Thursday, she got her wish.  Amid balloons and other fanfare, Annetta became Self-Help’s very first customer to visit our new location in the Triangle at 7029 Harps Mill Road

For Annetta, having a branch that’s close to home is almost a 20-year dream come true.

“It took me about an ‘hour and change’ to get to the branch in Durham,” Annetta explains. “This is so much closer. I’m just so excited to be able to visit a branch that’s near me.”

“The Raleigh location fits with our vision and commitment to serving working families and communities across North Carolina,” states Ron Wiley, Self-Help Credit Union regional director.

According to the Census, Wake and Durham counties have among the largest percentages of Latino residents in North Carolina. The Raleigh location provides an opportunity to grow our membership base with this and other underserved communities in surrounding areas.

New and existing members will benefit from an expanded choice of products, such as mobile banking services. There’s a space for area community groups to meet, training rooms to financial education seminars and counseling, a children’s corner and, of course, regular office space.

Wiley says there are still a few cosmetic items remaining -- adding plants, wall hangings, and more items for the children’s corner -- but overall the building is virtually complete.

“So many people played a role in making the first branch in North Carolina’s second largest city and the state capital a reality,” Ron says. “It was really a lot of hard work with several moving parts that were coordinated seamlessly, which I believe reflects the talent and commitment we have among our staff.”

“A heartfelt thanks to the entire team who helped to make the opening possible,” Ron adds.

That’s a sentiment shared by Annetta Carter, who reasons why she’s so loyal to Self-Help.

“I love what the credit union has to offer!” she exclaims.

Self-Help Raleigh branch hours are as follows:

·         Normal hours: Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm

·         Extended drive-thru hours: Friday until 6 pm

Plans are underway for an official grand opening in the spring, so stay tuned.
