Position Description:

 

Self-Help is seeking a Bilingual Member Service Representative/Consumer Loan Officer (BL MSR/CLO) to join our team in Wilson, NC.  The BL MSR/LO will be responsible for safely deploying Credit Union money through approving or disapproving consumer loans, including vehicle loans, home improvement, home equity, personal, secured and unsecured, student loans and credit card.  This individual is also responsible for generating consumer loan demand by marketing Credit Union products and services.

 

Additionally, the BL MSR/LO will serve as a liaison between our members and the credit union to meet all member needs including providing account information by phone, in person or via email, providing information on the full range of credit union products and services, opening accounts for members, resolving issues, etc.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Credit Union to individuals and groups in the community and participate in business development efforts to promote Self-Help lending products including mortgage, consumer loan, and all other products as needed.
  • Manage the entire consumer loan process from initiation through closing, including interviewing and prequalifying loan applicants, determining maximum purchase price/loan amounts, preparing applications, verifying accuracy of loan amounts and repayment terms, and providing timely and accurate disclosures while operating with moderate credit authority and complying with all federal and state regulations. Will also prepare file for processing and underwriting; monitor processing progress and trouble-shooting issues that arise during the collection, verification and analysis of supporting documentation.
  • Counsel members at their request or when evidence indicates there are budgeting problems or imminent financial difficulties.Assist members in choosing the loan product and related products/services that best meet their needs.Proactively offer and cross-sell Credit Union products and services.Assist collections staff in resolving delinquent accounts when requested.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to members and visitors to the credit union, on the telephone and via email.Provide prompt, efficient and accurate service in the processing of all transactions.Process manual payrolls and assist in opening IRA accounts.
  • Keep abreast of Self-Help policies and procedures involved in processing consumer loans and member services and perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Open, close and balance cash drawer daily.Maintain drawer cash levels within prescribed amounts.Handle Vault Teller responsibilities, managing, balancing and balancing flow of cash in and out of the vault and manage all activities related to ATM deposits and balancing.
  • Provide translational assistance to members and staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as may be needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 4 to 6 years of experience in retail banking with prior experience at the MSR II level or equivalent experience.
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to form and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and /or individuals.
  • Mathematical skills including calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, areas, and volume, and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements, operating projections, budgets and cash flows and to evaluate and make sound recommendations based on financial risk assessment and underwriting criteria.
  • Sales and Marketing — Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services including:
    • marketing strategy and tactics
    • product demonstration
    • sales techniques
    • sales control systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • English/Spanish fluency.
  • Ability to travel to cover other branches, as needed.

Physical Requirements:

 

Frequently requires use of manual dexterity and repetitive motions, primarily with the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.  Must be able to occasionally lift and exert force of up to 10 pounds.
