Position Description:

Self-Help is seeking a Business Analyst – Accounting Systems to join our team in Durham.  The Business Analyst – Accounting Systems manages software for the accounting-finance team.  This is a functional role that requires great communication skills, strong Excel and Access skills, accounting knowledge, and the ability to design application interfaces between various software tools. Familiarity with modern programming languages a plus. 

 

The Business Analyst – Accounting Systems will formulate and define scope and objectives based on both user needs and a strong understanding of applicable business systems, best practices and compliance requirements.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

  • Administering and maintaining Microsoft Access routines/databases that extract/import data from purchased software
  • Assess possible systems improvements to simplify, streamline and modernize extract/import routines. With input from accounting stakeholders, create product specification designs for software development team to implement. Lead project management efforts for deployment and release of internal software.
  • Create, administer and maintain basic automation tasks and scripts
  • Administer and maintain new systems and routines to extract/import data.
  • Create, administer, and maintain scripts to validate and ensure data quality.
  • Partnering cross functionally with other Self-Help teams to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Manage applications of the Accounting and Finance team, including working with software developers to implement alternative programming solutions to current needs This will involve:
  • Administering accounting and finance software such as MAS 100, ATX, Yardi, Blackbaud, and Concur. These duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining and updating user access controls
  • Serving as primary liaison to third-party software providers for updating and trouble-shooting software
  • Creating and maintaining new corporations and subsidiaries
  • Loading and updating charts of accounts for various Self-Help entities
  • Coordinating software maintenance, installation, and updates with Information Technology Team
  • Proactively recommend process improvements to determine best practice and make recommendations to management on how to improve current practices and processes.
  • Generate routine and ad hoc reports, ad-hoc reporting requests, routine system monitoring.
  • Develop queries, analyses, or custom reports from applications for operations or management staff or develop specifications for such queries or analyses to be performed by others.
  • Serve as back-up support for other technology needs.
  • Document workflow processes, identify policy or procedural changes that may be necessary, and oversee the testing of proposed solution.
  • Provide operational support to the Accounting and Finance teams as needed.
  • Perform other projects and duties as requested.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant experience.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience relevant business experience working with accounting and financial systems.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and accounting practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan and prioritize work.
  • Ability to initiate and juggle multiple projects and work independently to meet goals and objectives.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate business needs and to identify possible solutions.
  • Understanding of business process and data modeling.
  • Ability to analyze and develop business and technical requirements.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build solid relationships
  • Strong technical aptitude and familiarity. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity and understanding SQL processes preferred.
  • Knowledge of back office operations and associated centralized processing

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with accounting financial systems preferred.
  • Familiarity and understanding SQL processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with Access, Yardi, MAS (Sage), Blackbaud, ncino preferred.
  • English/Spanish fluency preferred.

Physical Requirements:

 

Frequently requires use of manual dexterity and repetitive motions, primarily with the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.  Must be able to occasionally lift and exert force of up to 40 pounds.
